“Thoughtful urban planning is vital for sustainable urban development,” Urban Development Commissioner Shakeel Ahmed said on November 4 in Belagavi.

“We need to realize the importance of thoughtful urban planning, sustainable development and collective efforts in shaping the future of the city,” he said at a gathering after inaugurating the three-day DULT Monsoon Design Studio 2026 at Karnatak Law Society’s Gogte Institute of Technology in Belagavi.

Mr. Ahmed shared valuable insights on urban development initiatives and emerging urban challenges in Belagavi. He gave examples of the day-to-day problems faced by residents and the solutions attempted by officials of various urban development agencies. It provided participants with a broader understanding of the opportunities and responsibilities involved in creating a better urban environment.

The three-day event was organized by the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) in collaboration with KNMTA (Karnataka Non-Motorised Transport Agency) and in collaboration with the Department of Architecture KLS GIT.

Shamanth Kuchangi, TETC Head, DULT said the collaboration between DULT and KLS GIT Department of Architecture aims to provide students with an opportunity to engage with real urban issues and understand the practical dimensions of urban design and development.

Jyoti Patil, Head of Department, Architecture, emphasized the importance of the workshop in linking academic learning with professional practice and encouraged students to actively participate, explore innovative ideas and contribute meaningful design perspectives to urban development. “It will bring together students, urbanists and practitioners to explore urban challenges, exchange ideas and develop design-led approaches to improve Belagavi’s urban environment,” said Dr. He suffered.
