Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Chief Minister DK Shivakumar of his full support for any effort made by the Karnataka government on critical issues like water security, while noting that the challenge posed by the drought is immense.

In his five-page letter to the Chief Minister on the eve of the Karnataka Rajyotsava, copies of which were released to the press by the Chief Minister’s Office on Thursday, the Prime Minister particularly urged the Chief Minister to make water conservation a top priority.

In the letter, he greeted on the occasion of the day of the formation of the state. He listed the various works done by the Karnataka Development Center and also mentioned the areas where the Center and the State could work together to improve the lives of the people.

“As we look to the future, I believe there are several areas where the Union and state governments can work together to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of our citizens. One such area is water conservation. Together, we will ensure that this remains one of our top priorities,” he said.

“Karnataka is blessed with rivers, lakes and traditional water bodies. These invaluable resources must be protected for future generations,” he noted.

In an apparent reference to the severe drought plaguing the state, he said: “The challenge posed by drought is also immense, especially in the northern parts of the state. I am aware that this issue is close to your heart. By increasing public participation, rejuvenating water bodies, capturing rainwater and responsible water management, we can enhance water security in both rural and urban areas.”

He said, “Similarly, cleanliness, especially in our cities, deserves renewed attention. As Karnataka’s urban centers continue to expand, let us collectively prioritize scientific waste management, sanitation, cleaner public spaces and sustainable urban development.”

He told the chief minister, “I see that the people of Karnataka are doing a lot of work in this regard. I assure you of my full support in any such endeavor undertaken by your government.”

Lauding the people of Karnataka, the Prime Minister said, “The people of Karnataka have come to embody entrepreneurship, innovation, intellectual excellence and the spirit of progress. Take any sector of the future, be it information technology, biotech, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, research or startups, and you will find that Karnataka has an important role to play. Karnataka’s most pressing problems of talented people have established themselves as the most pressing solutions to human problems.”

He remarked, “It is a great honor for me and my government to be able to work for my sisters and brothers from Karnataka. This is reflected in the support extended to Karnataka through various schemes of the central government.”

The Prime Minister said, “As we draw inspiration from Rashtrakavi Kuvempu’s immortal composition, ‘Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanugate’, may this occasion bring greater progress, prosperity and opportunities to every person in the state.”

Lauding the people of the state, the Prime Minister said, “Karnataka is an extraordinary confluence of cultural richness, spiritual wisdom and remarkable achievements. From the grandeur of Mysuru Dasara to the timeless traditions of its villages, what is amazing about Karnataka is how it beautifully preserves its heritage while embracing modernity.”
