The Congress on Thursday (November 5, 2026) hit out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for describing the INDIA Bloc rally on November 1 as a “ghuspetiya bachao” (save the infiltrators) event, saying that if he was unable to fulfill his duties, he should relinquish the charge of the Home Ministry and return to the post of BJP president.

In a post on social media platform X, Congress media and publicity chief Pawan Khera questioned Mr Shah’s handling of internal security, citing the ongoing violence in Manipur, the Pahalgam terror attack, the 2025 blast near the Red Fort and the recovery of 300 kg of RDX near the national capital.

“Mota bhai, if the home ministry is out of your control, why are you still clinging to that seat? You have not been able to manage three million ghuspetiyas in the country in seven years,” Mr Khera said.

Mr Shah is expected to take charge of the BJP and tour the country – from Hyderabad to Haryana (Karnal) – with the party’s “mobile circus”, a term the Congress leader used to describe the BJP’s “Loktantra bachao, arajakta hatao” (save democracy, remove anarchy) protests.

“Why are you sinking the ship of the country by sticking to the Home Office?” Mr. Khera said, also glancing at BJP president Nitin Nabin, “Poor Nitin Nabin doesn’t understand anything. Free him.”

Mr Khera’s remarks came after Mr Shah, while addressing a rally in Karnal after the BJP’s “Loktantra bachao, arajakta hatao” march, accused the opposition of organizing the November 1 rally to protect infiltrators rather than to protect voters.

The BJP is committed to identifying and removing “infiltrators” from electoral rolls and deporting them from the country, Mr Shah said, describing the process as “detect, remove and deport”.

The home minister also targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who leads the opposition in the Lok Sabha, claiming that Parliament was the country’s highest forum for democratic debate, but the opposition leader did not allow him to function.

“You don’t allow Parliament to run, you don’t discuss issues. You have made it the culture of the Congress to create ruckus and resort to boycotts,” Mr Shah said.
