Bengaluru’s much-awaited Pink Metro Line is all set to take a major step towards opening, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi planning to inaugurate its 7.5-km elevated section on November 13, 2026.

PM Modi to inaugurate new route in Pink Line Metro in Bengaluru

The stretch connecting Kalena Agrahar and Tavarekere in south Bengaluru has already passed safety clearance, bringing the service closer to reality for passengers.

The inauguration will also take Bengaluru Metro’s operational network beyond the 100 km mark for the first time. Once the new section opens, the operational network of the Namma Metro will expand from 96.1 km to 103.6 km, making it the second largest metro network in India after Delhi.

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya confirmed the date in a post on X, while Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda also announced the development. Surya said Modi will drive from Tavarekere to IIMB-Bilekahalli station before formally launching the commercial services.

Which stations will open on November 13?

The first operating section of the Pink Line will cover seven stations:

The new stretch is expected to benefit commuters traveling on Bannerghatta Road and people living or working around Hulimavu, JP Nagar and the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB).

One of the most important stations on this stretch will be Jayadeva Hospital. It will provide an interchange with the existing Yellow Line that connects RV Road to Bommasandra and serves the IT corridor of Electronics City. This will provide commuters from south Bengaluru with another way to reach major employment areas in the city without being completely dependent on road transport.

The 7.5 km elevated section received clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) on October 28 after inspections and safety assessment. The approval was an important step towards the commencement of passenger traffic.

What about the rest of the Pink Line route?

The 7.5 km elevated section is only part of the larger Pink Line project. The entire corridor will be approximately 21.25 km in length and will connect Kalena Agrahara in the south of Bengaluru with Nagawara in the north.

It will include a 13.76 km long underground section, which is still under construction. The remaining section requires the installation and integration of canvas platform doors and signaling systems before it can begin passenger service.

Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said test runs in the underground section are planned for November. The section is expected to be operational in 2027, with the company targeting May 2027 for the opening of the entire Pink Line.

The entire corridor will have 18 stations and is expected to improve connectivity between several important residential, commercial and work areas of Bengaluru.

How long will it take to complete the construction?

The Pink Line has faced several construction delays, with work on its elevated section beginning in 2017. The project was expected to open much earlier, but construction and other technical requirements pushed the timelines back.

The upcoming opening is especially important for commuters who regularly travel on Bannerghatta Road, where traffic jams are a frequent problem during peak hours.

For now, the November 13 event is expected to mark the start of passenger service on the elevated section. A bigger milestone will come when the underground section is completed and the entire Pink Line is operational in 2027.
