More than 18,400 gurukul seats have filled Phase I entrances in Telangana

More than 18,400 seats in Telangana Social Welfare Gurukul institutions have been filled during the first phase of admissions for the academic year 2026-27, with the overall seat occupancy touching 93.21%, according to the state government.

The results of the entrance examination for admission to Sainik, Center of Excellence, Non-COE and Vocational Junior Schools under the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society were released by Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar at the State Secretariat here on Friday.

Addressing the media, the minister said that 18,401 seats were filled during the phase-I admissions against the total availability of 19,740 seats in Gurukul institutions in the state, leaving only 1,339 seats vacant.

The admission notification was issued on April 5 and online applications were accepted between April 6 and May 25. A total of 45,357 applications were received from across Telangana, including 21,447 for MPC, 17,400 for BiPC and 6,510 for MEC, CEC and HEC groups combined.

The entrance exam was held on May 15 at 117 centers in the state, 39,052 students appeared for the test, recording a participation rate of 86.09 percent.

Officials said MPC recorded 96.63% seat occupancy with 8,156 admitted against 8,440 seats, while BiPC recorded 90% occupancy with 7,425 seats filled out of 8,280. CEC admissions touched 98.68% occupancy and HEC recorded 98%.

He said the government was working to transform gurukul institutions into centers of national excellence and enable students from rural and underprivileged backgrounds to compete in national-level examinations along with students from leading corporate colleges.

Highlighting the recent academic achievements, the Minister said that 337 students from welfare institutions have qualified in JEE Main 2026, including 26 who scored above 90 percentile. He also noted that 525 students from the institutions had qualified for JEE Advanced last year.

Parents of students selected during the admission phase I have been asked to complete the admission process by June 7 by submitting all required certificates. Officials have also urged students to report to colleges from June 1, when institutions are expected to reopen.
