Man escaped from Coimbatore district police custody arrested
A 25-year-old man from Bhavani in Erode district, who escaped from the custody of police personnel escorting him to Coimbatore Central Jail for judicial custody on October 31, was arrested on Monday (November 2).
Director General of Police and Chief of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal confirmed the arrest to The Hindu. Sources said a special team of the police arrested Raghavan, allegedly from his native, on Monday evening. He was later taken to a place under the jurisdiction of the Coimbatore District (Rural) Police for questioning.
According to the police, Raghavan has several cases against him in Erode and Karnataka. He first escaped from the custody of the Karnataka Police at a place under the jurisdiction of the Annur Police in Coimbatore district on 19 June 2026 when he was being brought back to Coimbatore after remand in the case.
Since the escape took place in their jurisdiction, the Annur police launched a manhunt for Raghavan and arrested him on 30 October. He escaped from police custody again when he was escorted to the Coimbatore Central Jail on October 31 at around 12.40 pm.
The Race Course police registered a case in connection with the second escape and joint teams from Coimbatore city and rural areas searched for Raghavan until he was arrested on Monday.
