Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to make elaborate arrangements for the eighth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games 2026, ensure the highest standards of quality and create a sustainable sports infrastructure that will continue to benefit young athletes even after the competitions.
Addressing a review meeting here on Monday, the Chief Minister said that the state government is giving top priority to the prestigious national sports event, which is being held immediately after the Invest Telangana Global Summit. The Khelo India Games should be used as an opportunity to provide international infrastructure and world-class coaching facilities to young athletes.
He directed the officials to take immediate steps to include the Telangana traditional sport of Karrasam in the games in the host state category. Referring to shortcomings under the previous government, BRS pointed out that some of the infrastructure created for sporting events had deteriorated over the years due to negligence.
The Games are expected to attract more than 7,000 young athletes and around 2,000 coaches and officials from across the country. Competitions in 27 sports and one showcase event will be held at 20 venues across six cities in Telangana, including Hyderabad.
Strict control of waste collection
In a review meeting with municipal officials on Monday, the chief minister directed authorities to ensure that garbage is not seen anywhere in the city and called for continuous monitoring of daily garbage collection.
He warned officials against negligence in sanitation management and sought strict enforcement of door-to-door garbage collection.
Mr. Revanth Reddy emphasized the need to conserve potable water and instructed officials to discourage the use of potable water for construction activities, park maintenance, landscaping and horticulture.
He called for the expansion of recycled water supplies throughout the city. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has already introduced 28 green tankers under the first phase to collect treated water from 19 STPs.
