Three BSF personnel, a civilian injured in an encounter in Tripura

Tension has risen in the border areas under Kalamchura police station in Sonamura sub-division of Sepahijala district in Tripura following an encounter between Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and local residents on Monday (November 2, 2026). Three BSF personnel and a local youth were injured. Police are investigating the incident.

Three BSF personnel, including an officer, were treated at a government hospital in Agartala, police said. The injured young man, who has a broken leg, was also taken to the hospital.

The clash took place during a road blockade in Ashabari locality by local residents protesting the detention and assault of the youth. Many women also joined the protest.

The officer and personnel who arrived at the scene in a vehicle ended up in a heated scuffle with the protestors who led the clash. The mobs also chased the BSF men as they tried to retreat.

Police confirmed that three BSF personnel and a local youth sustained multiple injuries. The injured were later taken to Tripura Medical College and BRAM Hospital on the outskirts of Agartala.

The BSF has not officially commented on the incident. A security contingent comprising armed police and Tripura State Rifles personnel has been deployed at the scene of the incident.

The deployment of security forces helped restore normalcy in the area, reports said. No arrests have been made yet, despite two separate first information reports being filed at the local police station.

This is the second incident in the last one year during which the BSF has come under attack in Tripura. In an earlier incident, four BSF soldiers and an officer were injured when their vehicle was attacked at Bishalgarh market, also in Sepahijala district.
