No Starc, Cummins or Hazlewood in a team like Australia names several new faces of the England series
Australia have named some new faces in their white-ball squads for the upcoming series against England, with young fast bowler Mahli Beardman and all-rounders Jack Edwards and Liam Scott among those who have received call-ups.Batting prospects Ollie Peake and Jake Fraser-McGurk were also included, along with wicketkeepers Lachlan Shaw and Sam Harper. Mitchell Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20I teams.“These ODI and T20 matches provide a great chance for several players, many of whom have had opportunities on recent tours, to further demonstrate their ability against very strong opposition,” said chairman of selectors George Bailey.Beardman, Peake, Edwards, Scott, Nikhil Chaudhary and Joel Davies have made their debut with the white ball in recent times. Shaw and Harper are the only uncapped players on the teams.“They are good examples of players who have had an opportunity at international level and continued to work on their game from what they learned from those experiences,” Bailey added.Australia will play three ODIs against England at home from November 13-18, followed by a five-match T20I series. The matches will give the next generation of Australian players the opportunity to bid for selection ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. With the home Test series against New Zealand looming, fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have been rested from the white-ball teams. The trio featured in Australia’s 2-1 Test series win in South Africa.Travis Head, Alex Carey, Matt Renshaw, Josh Inglis, Cooper Connolly and Cameron Green have been named in the ODI squad but will not feature in the T20Is.After the New Zealand series, Australia will travel to India for a five-Test series. This will be followed by the Jubilee 150th Test against England in Melbourne and the Ashes campaign.“We’re in the middle of a very challenging phase of our schedule,” Bailey said, referring to Australia’s Test players.“To handle this load, each player’s preparation for the New Zealand series will be carefully planned and focused on the individual’s physical and mental preparation.”
