Another compound collapse in the city killed a 52-year-old man
In a tragic turn of events, a 52-year-old man died after a wall collapsed on him following heavy rain in West Bengaluru’s Vijayanagar on Friday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Shivaboraiah, a resident of Attiguppe, who made his living by driving an autorickshaw. A preliminary probe revealed that Shivaboraiah brought his mother and wife to the hospital, dropped them at the entrance and drove to the next lane to avoid the traffic pile-up.
A senior police officer told The Hindu that the wall of the Vijayanagar club collapsed directly on the autorickshaw in which Shivaboraiah was sitting. Passers-by noticed the incident and rushed to his rescue, but the debris killed Shivaboraiah on the spot.
“The wall was located right next to the pool and the rain appears to have weakened the structure, which appears to be the main reason. However, only a detailed probe can reveal the exact cause,” he said.
The Vijayanagar police has received a complaint and an unnatural death report will be filed, according to the police.
The incident comes close to the tragedy of the collapse of a wall at the Lady Curzon Building and Bowring Hospital, which killed seven people on April 29.
The tragedy unfolded despite the Bengaluru Municipal Corporation stepping up efforts to remove dilapidated structures across the city. Corporations even created special teams for this purpose and ordered them to conduct audits.
