Rebel leaders in the AIADMK, SP Velumani and Natham R. Viswanathan, did not attend the party district secretaries’ meeting chaired by general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the party headquarters in Chennai on Sunday.

Topics discussed at the meeting included the party’s recent constituency performance in Dharapuram and Madurantakam assembly constituencies and preparations for the general council and executive committee meetings to be held in December this year. Senior leaders A. Tamilmagan Hussain, KP Munusamy and Dindigul C. Sreenivasan attended the meeting.

Earlier, Mr. Palaniswami issued a statement criticizing the TVK-led government over drug prices in Mudhalvar Marundhagams (earlier Amma Marundhagams). Citing a report by the All India Drug Action Network, he said that drugs in Amma Marundhagams are being sold at prices higher than the fixed prices, impacting the poor.

Retired Additional Superintendent of Police S Velladurai, who was known for his involvement in many ‘police encounter’ cases, joined the AIADMK in the presence of Mr Palaniswami on Sunday.
