The Minister of the Union’s Energy Manohar Lal said on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) that the government is working to standardize the starting temperatures of air conditioning, including car temperatures, between 20 and 28 degrees Celsius.
On Tuesday (June 10, 2025), Mr. Lal said on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) that the government was dealing with the creators of the equipment and states to standardize temperature AC.
“Consultations are taking place and the instructions will be completed in a corresponding way. Some states have asked to consider the moisture they have in the instructions,” Lal said without sharing further details.
Asked if ACS in cars will have such standardized temperatures, the minister said that the government is also consulting with automotive manufacturers.
The announcement comes at a time when Indian top demand for energy grew and on June 9 hit 241 GW.
Energy Minister Pankaj Agarwal said this step is aimed at improving energy efficiency in the country. Reducing even 1 degree helps save 6% of energy. “There are CRORES ACS in the country and new ones are evoked every year. So you can imagine savings,” he said.

The Energy Efficiency Office is engaged in the preparation of the framework for standardizing the starting temperatures of air conditioning in the range of 20 to 28 degrees Celsius to improve the energy efficiency in the country.
Bee under the Ministry of Power supports the use of energy -efficient processes, equipment, equipment and systems. It provides steps to support preferential handling of the use of energy efficient devices or appliances.
“The discussion is taking place on this topic, but no final decision on the exact range of temperatures or any timeframe (go out with the instructions) has not yet been taken,” PTI official said to demand anonymity.
