Arrangement for smooth landing of Jagan’s chopper, claims Kadapa Collector
Collector Sreedhar Cherukuri, Deputy Inspector General of Police Koya Praveen and Superintendent of Police Nachiket Vishwanath Shelke assess the election situation at a control room held in Kadapa on Sunday.
Even as former Chief Minister and Pulivendula MLA YS Jagan Mohan Reddy leveled allegations against NDA leaders of conspiring to prevent his helicopter from landing, the government on Sunday clarified that proper arrangements were indeed made to ensure the smooth landing of his helicopter without any hindrance to the ongoing election process.
Kadapa District Collector Sreedhar Cherukuri addressed a media conference along with Joint Collector Nidhi Meena and Superintendent of Police Nachiket Vishwanath Shelk, where he clarified that the arrangement for landing the helicopter was initially made at 12:50 PM but it arrived at 9:45 AM, much earlier than planned.
“Due to the progress in timing, there was apparently a brief interruption in the provision of pilots, escort and ropes which are mandatory for Z-Plus category VIPs as the policemen drafted for polling duty were already at their posts from 4 am. With proper coordination, we made revised arrangements for landing the chopper later,” explained Mr. Sreedhar.
Mr. Sreedhar, District Electoral Officer, said polling was conducted in a peaceful manner across urban local bodies in the district like Kadapa Corporation, Pulivendula, Jammalamadugu, Mydukur, Proddatur, Badvel and Yerraguntla municipalities.
He said no complaint was received of agents being obstructed in the booth anywhere in the district and 47 agents were recorded to have secured entry to their respective polling booths in Pulivendula village by 7 am.
“Some of them left the booths between 11:00 am and 11:30 am,” Mr. Sreedhar added, appealing to the public not to believe social media posts to the contrary.
Similarly, a case of a reported attack on a national media journalist in Pulivendula town where his video camera was damaged was recorded. Mr Nachiket said CCTV and drone footage would be screened to identify the culprits and initiate action.
