PV Sindhu defeated Line Kjaersfeldt in the Hylo Open final to win her second title of the season

PV Sindhu returned to the winning side in style as she beat Denmark’s Line Kjaersfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in the final of the Hylo Open on Sunday to claim her second title of the season. The Indian shuttler ended a dominant campaign in Germany with a straight games win.

The triumph came a week after Sindhu finished runner-up at the French Open where she lost to world number one An Se Young in the finals. The two-time Olympic medalist also won the Japan Open in July, making the Hylo Open her second BWF World Tour title this season.

Sindhu was in control throughout the tournament and reached the final without dropping a game. She started her campaign with a straight sets victory over compatriot Prakriti Bharath before getting past France’s Rosy Oktavia Pancasari. She continued her run by defeating Germany’s Amalie Schulz in the quarter-finals before defeating another Indian, Anmol Kharb, 21-13, 21-16 in the semi-finals.

Kjaersfeldt, meanwhile, had to dig deep to reach the title race. The Danish shuttler produced an impressive performance in the semi-finals as he recovered from a game down to beat Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong 8-21, 21-19, 28-26. She also saved four match points in the 82-minute battle to set up the final against Sindh.

Sindhu entered the match with an impressive 6-1 head-to-head record against Kjaersfeldt. The Indian had also defeated the Dane in their previous meeting at the Indonesia Masters earlier this year.

The Hylo Open title is another important boost for Sindhu as she looks to build consistency on the international circuit. After falling in the French Open final, she made the most of her next opportunity to end her European campaign with another trophy.
