Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday (November 1, 2026) lauded the Chandigarh Police, saying that it has performed the tasks exceptionally well and set benchmarks for police forces across the country.

Since 1966, the Chandigarh police have worked tirelessly to protect the city and have effectively written a golden chapter in the history of policing in the entire country, he said.

“I believe that during these 60 years, Chandigarh as the heart of the northern region has successfully tried to contribute to the security of the whole of India,” he said.

Addressing a rally to mark the 60th Raising Day of Police in Chandigarh, Mr. Shah presented the President’s Color to the army.

He also said the “President’s Color” serves as a tribute to the troops for six decades of service, dedication and commitment.

As we pledged to make India drug-free, Mr. Shah said, “I am sure that if any unit in the country becomes the first drug-free, it will be Chandigarh.”

Paying tribute to all the martyrs of the Chandigarh Police, Mr. Shah said that laying down one’s life in the line of duty and making the ultimate sacrifice was a matter of immense pride for the soldier as well as the organization he belonged to.

Referring to the addition of 141 new vehicles to the fleet of the Chandigarh Police, the Home Minister said it would greatly enhance response time, patrolling, mobility, technology and modern policing.

Chandigarh Police is already ranked second in the country in terms of response time and I am confident that with the addition of these 141 new vehicles, it will reach the top position among police forces across the country by next year, he said.
