Following the results of the Legislative Council polls, Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav is trying to fuel the alleged rift between the central leadership and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state leadership by projecting the Gorakhpur versus Varanasi slate.
He tries to make inroads between the Brahmins and the Bani community by accusing the Chief Minister and his regime of being anti-Brahmins and anti-Banis.
“Let Kashi drown, but our affairs in Gorakhpur must not stop,” Mr Yadav said, referring to the BJP’s victory in the Gorakhpur Legislative Council Alumni seat, claiming that the victory would come at the cost of losing both Legislative Council seats in the Varanasi region.
“BJP has persecuted, oppressed and humiliated every community, so all the oppressed have come together. PDA’s support base has now reached 95%, thanks to Brahmin community, business community and Kayastha community who voted for us. Politics is paramount for BJP, not community. They have resorted to every vote tactic to defeat their traditional BJP communities.” why, be it the Brahmin community, the business community or the Kayastha community, they are all with us now, that’s why we are now at 95%,” Mr Yadav said in Lucknow on Friday (October 30, 2026) at a meeting attended by the party’s Legislative Council winners and candidates.
In another address to the Brahmins, Mr. Yadav said that the entire Brahmin community is witnessing the harassment of Sanjayan Tripathi, the SP candidate from the Gorakhpur alumni seat.
“The corrupt BJP members and their conspiratorial allies and accomplices officials stooped to every level to win the MLC election. The conspiracy to defeat Dr. Sanjayan Tripathi was exposed for all to see. The reason behind Dr. Sanjayan Tripathi’s defeat by rigged vote count is not only that he is the SP candidate but the main reason behind it is Bhaata.
“BJP is going downhill in politics. After such a massive scam, the public has come to understand that BJP has actually lost every seat. The entire community is witnessing the harassment Dr. Sanjayan Tripathi faced. His community and teachers of the state will never forget Dr. Tripathi’s tears,” he added.
The SP won five of the 11 seats in the Council that went to polls on October 23, while the BJP won six seats.
When asked specifically about the meaning of ‘Haata Nahi Bhaata’, SP spokesperson Sunil Singh Yadav ‘Sajan’ said, “It is well known that Haata stands for late Hari Shankar Tiwari, a senior leader from Gorakhpur hailing from the Brahmin community, who is not liked by the current CM. Not only Brahmo and his late Tiwari are liked by his family but also late Tiwari. reflected in his government’s attitude towards Brahmins”.
Addressing the state BJP leadership meeting, the Union Home Minister played down any grudges against the leadership or within the party and urged party workers to throw their disappointment and resentment into the river Gomti and work with determination to form the BJP government for the third time.
Praising UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, the home minister said the state government has ensured a strong administration and freed the state from mafia influence.
