Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan (BCCI/IPL Photo) NEW DELHI: Not once. Twice. Same dismissal. Same reaction. Gujarat Titans batsman Sai Sudharsan suffered a bizarre dismissal during the IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals in Mullanpur on Friday when he hit in almost the same manner as his dismissal in Qualifier 1 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Dharamsala. With the unusual dismissal, Sudharsan became the first batsman in IPL history to be bowled a hit-wicket in back-to-back innings.GT captain Shubman Gill, batting at the non-striker’s end, was visibly overwhelmed. The Gujarat Titans skipper looked distraught and even collapsed to the ground in disbelief after seeing his opening partner return in such unfortunate circumstances. After Rajasthan Royals posted an impressive 214/6 in 20 overs, powered by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive 96 off 47 balls, Gujarat Titans got off to a flying start. Openers Gill and Sudharsan put together a century stand and seemed to be firmly in control of the chase.Just when it looked like the duo would lead Gujarat Titans to victory, Sudharsan’s innings came to an abrupt end. Sudharsan was trying to bowl a low full toss from Brijesh Sharma for offside and lost his grip on the bat after contact. The bat flew backwards and hit the stumps, resulting in the wicket being thrown away. The crowd was left stunned, while Gill went down on his haunches at the other end in frustration.“Where’s the fevicol? Where’s the glue?” Ravi Shastri quipped into the air.Chasing 215, Gill and Sudharsan added 167 runs in just 12.5 overs before an unfortunate dismissal ended Sudharsan’s innings. Despite the setback, Gujarat Titans registered a seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals. After the match, Gill was asked about Sudharsan’s unusual dismissal.“I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything. Nobody’s seen anything like that, two games, back-to-back. The way he got out. I saw some video on social media taping his hand, I guess I’ll have to do that in the next game,” Gill said. With a win, Gujarat Titans opened their title challenge against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
