The Ranipet forest department on Friday arrested a 20-year-old tribal belonging to the Irula community for possession of 22 country-made explosives.

Forest officials identified the arrested person as V. Devak Kumar, a resident of Irular Colony near Arcot town. Initial investigations revealed that a team of forest officials was on patrol in Pakkiri reserve forests near Kaveripakkam village when they apprehended Kumar.

After enquiry, Kumar took the team to a hideout where he kept rural explosives for allegedly hunting small wild animals.

A case was registered by the Kaveripakkam police on a complaint by forest officials. Later, Kumar was lodged in Vellore Central Jail. A probe is underway.
