The Press Club of India (PCI) on Friday (Oct 30, 2026) expressed shock at the Arunachal Pradesh police including the name of senior journalist Tongam Rina in its search warrant applications in connection with the 23 October Pasighat violence.

“PCI also condemns all attempts by state authorities to intimidate and harass journalists who are reporting on the ongoing protests against the Siang Dam project,” the statement said.
“Investigation into violence and destruction of property cannot be used as an excuse for intimidation of journalists covering a movement. The Arunachal Pradesh Police must immediately ensure that journalists including Rina are not harassed in this way just for doing their job,” PCI said.
Stating that Tongam Rina has an impressive track record in environmental, political and administrative affairs in the state, he added: “The inclusion of her name in the search warrant list without any justification or link to violence is a serious attack on press freedom which cannot be accepted in a democracy like India.”
