Christian Medical College (CMC) celebrated World Stroke Day 2026 at its Vellore and Ranipet campuses on Friday.
According to a press release, the event was held under the theme “Every Minute Counts, Be FAST, Know Stroke, Save Lives.” The celebrations brought together neurology, radiology, rehabilitation, emergency medicine and nursing teams to show the public what early stroke care looks like, from the first symptom to recovery.
A free carotid Doppler screening camp run by the Division of Clinical Radiology served approximately 500 persons. There were also interactive stalls, talks in four languages, testimonies from stroke survivors and a reel-making competition.
The event discussed the warning signs of stroke, the urgency of getting to the hospital within the treatment window, emergency brain imaging, acute treatment, including clot-dissolving and retrieval therapies, and rehabilitation and recovery.
Vinay Timothy Oommen, Deputy Director, CMC Vellore, and Head, Department of Physiology; Myla Yacob, Deputy Medical Superintendent, CMC Vellore, is among others who attended the event, the report said.
