The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday (May 29, 2026) conducted searches in four states in a case of smuggling of arms, ammunition and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) into the country through the India-Pakistan border.

The tours were conducted in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar and Maharashtra. “During a coordinated operation, NIA teams seized several digital devices,” it said.

The case was initially launched in February after the arrest of a man by the Special Operations Cell in Amritsar, Punjab. He was said to be carrying an IED packed in a metal case with a remote control set along with one mobile phone, a foreign-made .30 caliber pistol with a magazine and 20 rounds of ammunition.

The NIA said its investigation revealed that he was allegedly part of a cross-border smuggling syndicate that planned to carry out IED blasts at various locations in Punjab, Delhi and other parts of India.
