Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana on Thursday directed officials to speed up restoration work and bring life back to normalcy in cyclone-hit areas across Andhra Pradesh.

During a teleconference with Municipal Administration Department Commissioner and Director P. Sampath Kumar, Chief Public Health Engineer Prabhakar and Municipal Commissioners, the Minister reviewed the damage caused by Cyclone Arnab and the progress of rescue and recovery measures.

Officials informed the minister that the cyclone hit 85 places in 10 municipalities in eight districts. Normalcy has so far been restored in 71 locations in seven municipalities, they said.

Downed trees and power poles have been removed, officials said. In areas where power remained cut off, potable water was supplied using generators so that residents did not face water shortages.

Mr. Narayana directed the city commissioners to prioritize sanitation and maintain cleanliness in the affected localities to avoid public health problems. He directed officials to ensure that the street lights are fully functional by Thursday evening.

The minister emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between departments to complete the restoration work quickly.
