Troops continued to hunt a group of terrorists who were reportedly holed up in the Rajouri forests of the Pir Panjal Valley for the seventh consecutive day on Friday (May 29, 2026). An alert was issued in Poonch district after “suspicious movements” were noticed.
Officials said they believe the three terrorists are holed up in Gambhir Mughlan in the Dorimal forest belt of Rajouri. On May 23, the army spotted and engaged the group in a firefight. However, they managed to escape using the darkness and dense forest.
Officials said combing has been stepped up and exit points have been sealed. The soldiers made contact with the terrorists twice while they were on the run. Helicopters and drones are helping the operation.
Officials said steep hills, dense forests, narrow roads and natural caves made the operation difficult.
