College student killed after motorcycle hits pedestrian, hits TDB president’s car in Pathanamthitta

A 20-year-old college student was killed when the motorcycle he was riding hit an elderly pedestrian before hitting a car carrying Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president K Jayakumar at Koodal in Pathanamthitta district on Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Krishnanandhu S. Pillai, a student of Institute of Human Resource Development (IHRD) College, Kallanjoor.

Mr. Jayakumar was on his way to Pathanamthitta in connection with preparations for the upcoming Sabarimala annual pilgrimage season when the accident occurred around 8.55 am, police said. The motorbike first hit an elderly man as he was crossing the road. The rider then lost control of the vehicle and fell under the TDB president’s car. While the student died in the accident, the pedestrian sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police examined CCTV footage and recorded eyewitness accounts as part of the investigation. The car was taken into custody and handed over to Koodal police station, officials said.

The driver was also taken into custody and subjected to a medical examination. A scientific team examined the crash site to assist the investigation. The Koodal police have registered a case in connection with the death and have started an investigation.

The body will be handed over to the relatives after the post-mortem, police said.
