KSEB received approval for short-term electricity purchases for the period November 2026 to March 2027

The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) has approved the Kerala State Electricity Board’s (KSEB) proposal for short-term power purchases to meet the expected increase in power demand between November 2026 and March 2027.

The total financial commitment of the proposed power purchase is ₹ 131.26 crore for procurement of 164.16 million units (mu) at an average of ₹ 8 per unit.

The commission approved a total contract of 145 megawatts (MW) for November and 120 MW for December 2026, 240 MW each for January and February 2027 and 270 MW for March 2027.

The commission headed by TK Jose rejected the electricity purchase proposed for the month of April-2027 as the rate offered was “too high”.

KSEB has sought approval for short-term purchases through the Union Power Ministry’s Discovery of Efficient Electricity Price (DEEP) portal to meet the deficit from October 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027. The utility has projected a 17% to 23% increase in peak demand and a 12% to 17% increase in power demand from November 27 to May 2026 for the 2026 period
