Ranji Trophy: Tanush Kotian helps Mumbai crush Haryana, Bengal thrash Kerala

Tanush Kotian took a career-best 8/81 as Mumbai beat Haryana by 10 wickets, while Pradipta Pramanik took 10 wickets in a match for the first time in his first-class career to lead Bengal to a 287-run win over Kerala in the Ranji Trophy on Thursday.

Mumbai needed just 10.4 overs to reach the target of 97 after Haryana were bowled out for 256 in their second innings. Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who scored a century in the first innings, led the chase with an unbeaten 67 off 39 balls, while Divyaansh Saxena was not out on 30 off 25 deliveries.

The win extended Mumbai’s perfect start to the season, with the team making it three consecutive bonus-point wins. They beat Chandigarh at home and Himachal Pradesh away in the first two rounds.

Kotian did damage with the ball, taking eight wickets as Haryana looked to build on the start of the second innings. Resuming on the final day at 73/2, still behind Mumbai, the hosts needed considerable cooperation to make it through.

Samant Jakhar and Anuj Thakral fought back and put on 81 runs for the eighth wicket. Jakhar scored 40 before Kotian broke the stand while Thakral remained unbeaten on 40. Haryana were eventually bowled out in the second over, leaving Mumbai with a modest target.

Chasing short work, Raghuvanshi reached his half-century in just 29 balls. He finished with seven fours and three sixes, while Saxena hit two fours and two sixes as Mumbai wrapped up the match comfortably.

PRAMANIK BENGAL SEAL WIN 10-WORK

Bengal continued their winning run with a 287-run victory over Kerala, with Pradipta Pramanik claiming his maiden 10-wicket haul in first-class cricket.

Kerala resumed the final day at 53/4 while chasing 408 but were bowled out for 120 in 38.4 overs. Pramanik finished with 6/51 in the second innings, adding to his figures of 4/44 in the first innings and returning match figures of 10/95.

On Thursday, he struck early with his left-hander as he dismissed Kerala skipper Vishnu Vinod for 19 before dropping Salman Nizar for one. Mohammed Shami then sent back Aditya Sarwate and Vaisakh Chandran as Kerala slipped to 70/8.

Mohammed Azharuddeen scored 26 while MD Nidheesh made 33 off 28 balls in a short counter attack. Shahbaz Ahmed ended both their runs to give Bengal a complete victory.

Shahbaz was named man of the match after scoring 121 in Bengal’s first innings and adding 20 in the second. He also took two wickets in each innings while Shami finished with five wickets in the match.

Bengal scored 350 in their first innings before adding 198 in the second, setting Kerala a target of 408. The win was their third in a row and moved them 18 points clear at the top of the elite Group C table.

BADONI’S DOUBLE-TON STANDS OUT IN DRAW BEFORE RAIN

Delhi and Jharkhand had to settle for a draw in Ranchi after rain prevented play on the last two days of their Ranji Trophy match. Delhi got three points on the back of their first innings lead while Jharkhand got one.

Delhi captain Ayush Badoni remained unbeaten on 210 off 228 balls, hitting 19 fours and three sixes as his side declared 515/5. It was his second consecutive double century in the competition. Badoni also took a wicket in Jharkhand’s first innings and was named man of the match.

In reply, Jharkhand reached 131/4 in 47 overs before rain halted the match. Utkarsh Singh was unbeaten on 53 while Sharandeep Singh contributed 31.

The weather also forced Odisha and Services to share points in Bhubaneswar. Odisha were bowled out for 194 in their first innings with Pulkit Narang taking 6/47. Services reached 40 without loss before rain prevented further play during the final three days.

VIDARBHA, SAURASHTRA AND KARNATAKA WIN

Vidarbha beat Goa by an innings and 27 runs, with Harsh Dubey taking 4/38 as Goa were bowled out for 195 in their second innings.

Tamil Nadu beat Railways chasing a target of 128. Toufik Uddin Mondal took four out of five wickets in Tamil Nadu’s second innings but Railways failed to defend the target.

Saurashtra secured an innings and 12-run victory over Assam, with Parth Bhut returning figures of 8/17. Karnataka also recorded a convincing innings and 116-run win over Tripura, with skipper Shreyas Gopal taking 5/36 in the second innings.

Uttar Pradesh and Puducherry played a draw. Kartik Yadav took six wickets for Uttar Pradesh but Puducherry took the lead in the first innings and secured a share of the points.
