The highly anticipated launch of air -conditioned electric buses at Bengalur International Airport Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) was delayed, mainly due to the incomplete charging infrastructure and delay in deployment of the driver.
Electric buses, which were originally planned for introduction by the end of May, have to start operation. According to BMTC officials, the primary reason is slow progress when introducing charging devices at the airport. Reserved charging station is currently under construction in the parking lot, approximately 1 km from Terminal 2.
“This device, as soon as it is ready, will be able to charge up to three buses at the same time through what is called charging an opportunity – a method that allows buses to charge during short intervals throughout the day, usually requires up to 45 minutes per session,” BMTC official explained.
Trial
So far, BMTC has taken over 58 air -conditioned electric buses from OHM Global Mobility Private Limited, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland. It is part of a larger fleet of 320 buses that have been replaced to replace older Volvo buses, which serve the airport routes Vajra and Vayu Vajra. Currently, these 58 buses are working on various urban routes during a test run.
New electric buses are obtained on the basis of the model gross cost (GCC), where BMTC pays the operator of 65.8 GBP per km. “Each bus is expected to operate 250 km a day and translate to 87,500 km per year. These 13 -meter -long buses are designed with low floor arrangements and include retracting ramps to ensure better accessibility for passengers with disabilities,” the official said.
Despite the fact that BMTC has received part of the fleet, faces another narrow narrow means, delay in trained drivers of the manufacturer. “This further moved the schedule for beginners at the airport,” the clerk added.
However, BMTC officials remain optimistic. “We expect AC Electric Buses to start the airport operations soon. As soon as completion of completion, it will eventually replace the existing Volvo fleet,” the official said.
