The forest department traced a tiger on Sunday, which was found in the human settlement in Idukki.
According to officials, farmers found a tiger and a dog imprisoned in a deep pit on a private cardamom plantation in Kadukkacita near Nettithoz, in Vandanmed Gram Panchayat along the Kerala-Tamil border in IDUKKI soon on Sunday.
Kottayam Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) N. Rajesh said the animals would fall into a deep pit while the tiger chased the dog. Jam is used for composting of plantations fragments. Snirls from the pit warned the inhabitants and plantation staff who in turn informed officials of the forest department.
Forest officials said the pit was approximately 15 feet deep, which makes the tiger more difficult to scal. The team of the forest department covered the pit with an iron grill and a forest veterinary team, led by assistant veterinary officer Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR) R. Anuraj, animal around 12:00. Because the first arrow could not fully calm the tiger, the team threw it again. The dog was also distributed because he was constantly barking.
Moved to PTR
“The forest team then brought both animals from the pit. Both looked unharmed and the dog was released in the area. The tiger was moved to Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Thekkady and will be released deep in the forest later on the day,” said Mr. Rajesh.
According to the clerk, the tiger is about two years and healthy. “It is suspicious that the animal arrived from Tamil over or PTR,” the clerk said.
According to the clerk, both animals remained imprisoned in the pit for many hours, but the tiger did not attack the dog.
According to officials, Tiger’s face had Porcupine Quills, which were removed. The rabin vaccine was given her because she stayed with the dog for a long time.
Local people said that the area bordering with Tamil Nadu was not considered a tiger habitat. Huge lines of forests, spotted agricultural land and cardamom plantations, characterize the green area adjacent to Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, observation of the tiger caused concern in the locality. Local people said the plantations who went to work at dawn were particularly vulnerable to the wilderness attacks.
