Sir Harry Kane ever? The Ballon d’Or winner indicates the wish of chivalry

Harry Kane has taken the world of football by storm, winning the Ballon d’Or after a sensational season with Bayern Munich and England. A knighthood could be the next honor to come his way, although the England captain admits it may take time to get used to being called ‘Sir Harry’.

Speaking to German newspaper BILD, the Bayern striker responded to growing calls to receive the honor with a touch of humour. While Kane admitted the name would sound tempting, he suggested he would rather stick with the name everyone knows him by.

“It would sound good! But I’d feel weird if everyone called me sir. So we’ll keep it as Harry for now,” Kane told BILD.

The 33-year-old became the first Englishman since Michael Owen in 2001 to win the Ballon d’Or.joining an elite list that includes Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton and Kevin Keegan. He finished ahead of Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona’s Lamin Yamal in the voting for the 2026 award.

KANE’S BALLON D’OR NUMBERS WIN

Kane’s claim to football’s biggest individual prize has been backed up by extraordinary numbers. In the 2025–26 season, he scored 73 goals in 65 games for club and country, including 61 goals for Bayern Munich and 12 for England. He also had eight assists in those games.

His 36 goals in the Bundesliga earned him a third successive Golden Boot, while he scored 14 times in the Champions League as Bayern reached the semi-finals. Kane also helped the German club win the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, completing the domestic treble. He scored six goals for England at the 2026 World Cup as the Three Lions finished third.

Kane also collected the Gerd Mller Trophy for top men’s goal scorer, making it a night to remember for the Bayern forward.

WILL KANE BECOME SIR HARRY?

Kane’s Ballon d’Or triumph sparked calls for him to receive a knighthood in recognition of his contribution to English football. However, no decision has been announced and this possibility remains a matter of speculation.

For now, Kane can enjoy career-defining success without worrying about a new title. After years of goals, records and trophies, the Ballon d’Or is finally his. As for becoming Sir Harry, the England captain seems happy to leave that conversation for another day.
