Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Ltd. (K-RIDE) achieved a milestone by launching two 61 meter long open web girders weighing approximately 245 metric tonnes each on National Highway-44 (NH-44) near Chandapur. While the first girder was launched on October 10, the second girder was launched on Wednesday.

According to K-RIDE, these are the longest girders launched for the Bengaluru Railway Doubling Project and form part of the 48 km long Baiyappanahalli–Hosur Railway Doubling Project (BYPL–HSRA).

Lakshman Singh, Executive Director, K-RIDE and Bi-RIDE, said, “The level crossing will allow road and rail traffic to move independently, thereby minimizing disruption to road traffic caused by rail traffic. Once completed and operational, the facility will improve traffic flow and increase the efficiency of transport operations at this crossing. The associated rail and other works are scheduled to be completed by January 2027.”

The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion and travel delays, improve road safety and support future highway expansion in coordination with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Doubling of railways will also increase rail capacity and operational flexibility for passenger and freight services along the Bengaluru-Hosur corridor, K-RIDE said.

In addition, the BYPL–HSRA rail doubling project will increase rail capacity and operational flexibility for passenger and freight traffic. Together, these improvements will enhance regional connectivity, facilitate transportation and logistics, support industrial and commercial growth and meet the growing mobility demands along the Bengaluru-Hosur corridor, K-RIDE said.
