After the persistent dismissal of growers, the state government increased the award of public procurement for Green Gram (Pachai Payar) in the Mayiladuthurai district as part of the price support system (PSS), allowing farmers to sell their production for 86.82 GBP for kg.
Orders are carried out through regulated public procurement centers in Mayiladuthurai, Kuthalam, Sembanarkoil and Srkazhi, which operate under the Nagapattinam Marketing Committee. Initially, 390 tons were sanctioned. With the filled quota, another 1,092 tonnes were assigned in response to local demand.
From this revised goal, Sembarkoil is processed by 425 tons, 222 tonnes of Kutham, Mayiladuthurai 238 tonnes and Sirkazhi 207 tons. The cast is based on an average of 384 kg per hectare or 155 kg per acre and will continue until June 29.
The district collector HS Sricant urged farmers to ensure that their green gram meets the quality standards prescribed by the Central Agency of the NAFED, which facilitates public procurement. Eligible products must not contain more than 2% of foreign matter, 3% other crop seeds, 3% seriously damaged grains, 4% of slightly damaged grains, 3% immature grains, 4% insects or pests damaged grains and should have a humidity content of 12% or less.
The state government carries out this system in cooperation with NAFEDs to ensure that farmers receive rewarding prices and revenue security.
