LIG housing design in urban Telangana should meet needs of 50 years: Housing Minister
The Indiramma House designs, to be built in 24 assembly constituencies in Hyderabad and surrounding urban areas, should meet the needs of the next 40 to 50 years, including infrastructure facilities such as drainage, parking and commercial spaces, said Housing and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.
The state cabinet on May 23 approved the construction of one lakh houses for the Low Income Groups (LIG) in the constituencies. Mr. Reddy along with Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday inspected government land and dilapidated apartment buildings in the city limits to check sites for construction of houses.
He held a review meeting on the proposed houses in Hyderabad on Friday, gave instructions on key aspects to be considered at the design stage and said the state government will issue an urban housing policy reflecting its commitment to provide houses to all families from poor backgrounds in urban areas.
After reviewing the proposals, he said if necessary, plans should be mapped out for the construction of 10-storey buildings keeping in mind the local needs.
Each assembly constituency should be taken as a unit and the houses in the units should be allotted to the people of the respective constituency. The minister said that the government intends to provide houses not far from people’s source of livelihood.
Each of the proposals should ensure that poor families can live happily and with self-respect. Mr. Reddy suggested that vaastu should be prioritized while designing the dimensions of the hall, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and other areas in the house.
