A few honeymoons from Indore, Madhya Pradesh – Raja Raghuvansehi and his wife Sonam – allegedly accompanied three men on the day they disappeared in the Meghalaya Sohra area. The official told the PTI press agency that the tourist guide had given this information to the police.
Raja Raghuvansehi and his wife Sonam disappeared on May 23, just hours after they logged off from home in Nongriat in the Sohra area in Shillong. Raja’s body was found in the gorge 2. June while the search for his wife.
Albert Pde, a guide in Mawlakhiat, said PTI said he had seen a few accompanied by three male tourists when they climbed over 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat.
He said he acknowledged the couple when he offered them their services the previous day to descend down to Nongriat, but politely refused and hired another guide.
“The four men went forward when the woman was behind. The four men spoke in Hindi, but I couldn’t understand what I was talking about because I only know Khasi and English,” Pde quoted.
He said he offered his services to take them to Nongriat on May 22, but hired another guide named Bha Wansai, and spent the night in Shipara Homestay and returned the next day without a guide.
“Before I arrived in Mawlakhiat, their scooter wasn’t there,” the guide said.
The guide also gave a statement to the police.
“As if she was dead”
The newlyweds of the rented scooter were found in Sohrarim, several kilometers from the parking lot in Mawlakhiat with the keys.
Meanwhile, even though Sonam does not need to be traced yet, his brother Govind, who camps in Shillong, accused the state government of not doing enough and looking for “as if she were dead”.
“We firmly believe that Sonam is alive. They are looking for it as if it were dead,” Govind said, urging the authorities to take help from the Central Investigation Office (CBI) or other agencies.
The main minister Meghalaya Conrad to Sangma assured that the government was not leaving “no stone” to find a missing woman.
However, the terrain, extremely strong precipitation and the hazy weather conditions that reduce visibility to just a few feet have affected the search operation.
“We try to best … Our boys do what they can, without resting with gadgets and trained dogs. The search will continue,” said police superintendent East Khasi Hills District, Vivek Syiem.
