Ravindra Jadeja’s four-year reign as the ICC’s best all-round Test player is over, with Jansen crowned the No.1
India’s Ravindra Jadeja has lost his position as the world’s highest-rated all-rounder after more than four years. South Africa’s Marco Jansen came out on top after his match-winning performance against Australia in Gqeberha.
Jansen climbed one place to overtake Jadeja in the latest update of the ICC men’s rankings to become the Test No.1 for the first time in his career on October 28. The 26-year-old finished with 451 rating points after playing a crucial role in South Africa’s series-equaling performance in the second Test of the World Test Championship against Australia.
Jansen struck with both bat and ball, scoring 85 runs and claiming a five-wicket haul in Australia’s first innings. His performance helped South Africa level the three-match series at 1-1 and also took him to the top of the Test bowling rankings.
JANSEN REPLACES STARC AS NO. 1 TEST BOWLER
Jansen’s rise was reflected in all three disciplines of the Test rankings. As well as ending Jadeja’s long reign as the leading all-rounder, the left-arm pacer climbed five places to overtake Australia’s Mitchell Starc as the world’s top Test bowler.
He also gained 13 places in the Test batting rankings, moving up to 56th, underscoring his growing value to the South African side as a genuine all-round contributor.
Jansen’s promotion comes shortly after former South African great Dale Steyn described him as the best cricketer in the world. His latest ranking adds weight to the growing recognition of his influence across formats of the game.
JADEJ’S FOUR-YEAR STATE AT THE TOP IS ENDING
Jadeja has held the No.1 position among Test all-rounders for over four years and has established himself as one of the most consistent performers in the longest format. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball has kept him at the top of the rankings for a long time.
Jansen’s rise now ends that run, with the South African becoming the latest player to top the charts after a superb performance in the high-stakes Test series.
The latest update also saw South Africa captain Temba Bavuma climb four places to second in the Test batting rankings after his man-of-the-match performance against Australia. Bavuma scored 179 in the first innings, leaving England captain Harry Brook as the only batsman above him.
South African spinner Simon Harmer was another big mover, climbing 15 places to eighth among Test all-rounders. Australia’s Scott Boland also gained ground in the bowling rankings, moving up three places to sixth.
