HYDRAA removes seven wells near Fox Sagar

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Tuesday removed seven borewells near Fox Sagar in Jeedimetla as part of its fight against illegal extraction and sale of groundwater.

The agency uncovered an operation near a lake on the outskirts of Kompalla where water was being filled into tankers between containers under large sheds. Some of the tankers allegedly carried HMWSSB decals to make them look like vehicles belonging to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board. HYDRAA seized the vehicles involved in the operation.

The agency removed the wells along with their pipes, dismantled water storage facilities in plastic tanks and halted preparations to drill more wells in the area.

In the latest action, HYDRAA removed 38 illegal wells near three lakes. These include 25 near Sunnam Cheruvu, six near Thammidikunta and seven near Fox Sagar.
