Estate agency hacked to death in Poothurai near Auroville

A 46-year-old man was hacked to death by an armed gang at Poothurai near Auroville in Villupuram district on Monday night.

The victim has been identified as Rajendra Kumar alias ‘Seizing’ Kumar of Jeevanandapuram in Puducherry. He had several cases against him.

According to the police, Rajendra Kumar was traveling by car with his friends to Poothurai where they consumed liquor. The gang, which was allegedly following his movement, attacked him with sharp weapons and fled the scene.

On receiving information, police from Gorimedu and Auroville police stations reached the spot as the incident took place near the inter-state border with Puducherry. After ascertaining that the area falls under the jurisdiction of the Auroville police limits, the body was picked up and sent to a private medical college and hospital in Kalapet.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
