Karnataka has expanded the distribution of eggs and bananas to children in preschool classes of government schools since the academic year 2025-26.
As a result, a total of 1,98,270 before primary students in government schools around the state became the recipient of the system. Children who do not consume eggs get two bananas every day on all working days. Previously, eggs and bananas were provided only to class 1 to class 10 government and auxiliary schools.
The state government issued an order 5. June to distribute eggs and bananas as a supplementary nutrition to students in cooperation with the AZIM premjja foundation.
A total of recipients
By 2024-25, there were 2,619 preschool classes in government schools throughout the state. With regard to the enormous demand, 5,000 other government schools from this academic year were started at about 70 crore.
The State School Committee for the development and monitoring of schools (SDMC) welcomed the government step to expand the distribution of eggs/bananas to primary students. “Eggs/bananas distribution is beneficial for the physical and mental development of young children,” said Umesh G. Gangavadi, President of the SCMC.
Last year, the Olete Chikkis groundwater was given to children who had not eaten eggs and bananas. However, the government stopped distribution because suppliers provided poor quality chikkis.
This year, the state government has earmarked a total of 755.62 GBP for the distribution of eggs/bananas to students from pre-school classes to class 10. With this there will be 51.61 390 children-40 47 461 in government schools and 11.929 government schools, it will be the recipient of the scheme.
The foundation signed an agreement with the government last year to provide a grant of 1,500 GBP for three years for the distribution of eggs/bananas as another nutrition for children of government schools. In accordance with this year, the Foundation provides Crore 501.68 GBP and the remaining CRORE 253.94 GBP will be carried by the state government.
Emphasis on transparency
In order to ensure transparency in this system, the participation of all children who are at 11 am at 11 am at 11 am, and entered in the Portal of Student Success (SATS). The school head was instructed to confirm this information by e-log by OTP and submit it to the Commissioners for Public Teaching and other officials of the department.
Every day, during the morning prayer, the director should inform students about the nutrients and the benefits of eggs and bananas. In addition, the director should invite at least 10 parents randomly every week to have noon meals with schoolchildren.
Increase the unit costs
Given the increase in price, the demand of government school teachers was to increase the unit costs provided by the government for eggs/bananas.
“On the market cost of eggs costs around 6.50 GBP. And the medium costs of bananas at least £ 5. Eggs/bananas,” said the headmaster of the government school in Bengalur.
