A Mumbai court on Monday (October 26, 2026) extended the police custody of the four accused in Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car burning case by two days, till October 28. The Mumbai Crime Branch has sought an extension till October 31 to investigate the alleged local support, obtain communications data and collect voice samples. Meanwhile, the ninth and tenth accused have also been lodged in police custody till October 28, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 11.
The four accused, arrested on October 23, were produced in court on Monday (October 26, 2026) after their earlier police custody ended. Investigators were seeking further leads to determine how the accused allegedly coordinated through the encrypted messaging app Signal, trace the source of the firearms and ammunition and identify those who may have assisted them in Mumbai.
The defense challenges the additional bond
Advocates Omkar Inamdar and Ajinkya Mirgal, who appeared for the accused, opposed the extension, arguing that investigators had already been given enough time to interrogate their clients and gather evidence.
The defense claimed mobile phones, SIM cards, bank details and debit cards had already been recovered. Mr. Inamdar said the accused were interrogated during the three-day transit and subsequent police custody, questioning the need for further detention.
The lawyers also questioned the relevance of the photos and personal conversations obtained from the phones, arguing that the images were selfies with friends and that the conversations appeared unrelated to the alleged crime.
According to the defense, investigators reiterated their earlier leads regarding communications allegedly exchanged over Signal. Police were also seeking voice samples of all four accused, which lawyers said could be taken with the court’s permission during remand.
The defense further questioned the need for further remand to identify the accused’s alleged local support network, arguing that investigators who traveled across states to make the arrests should have been able to determine whether they had been assisted in Mumbai.
The lawyers also disputed the prosecution’s claim that the accused intended to bring the gun to Mumbai and then take it back. They pointed to the recovery of the firearm from Surat in Gujarat, saying that questions about its connection with the alleged crime may be explored during the trial.
However, the court allowed two more days of police custody.
The ninth and tenth accused were in custody until October 28
Meanwhile, advocate Ajinkya Mirgal said the ninth and tenth accused arrested in the case have been produced in court and remanded in police custody till October 28.
According to Mirgal, investigators are questioning them about the source of the weapons, alleged logistical assistance, a broader conspiracy behind the shooting and possible gang affiliation.
Eleventh accused arrested in Indore
In a separate development, 22-year-old Pranjal Thakran, a resident of Kharkhoda in Sonipat district of Haryana, was arrested in Indore on Saturday (October 24, 2026) in a joint operation by the Mumbai Crime Branch and Indore Crime Branch.
Mr. Thakran was brought to Mumbai on transit remand and was produced before the Esplanade Court on Sunday, October 25, where he was remanded till October 31 by the Mumbai Police against an extortion cell.
Investigators suspect that Mr. Thakran provided logistical or other assistance to the alleged shooters. Police are probing his suspected role, contacts, possible criminal antecedents and alleged links with Anil Pandit to see if their ties had any connection to the shooting.
According to preliminary information, Mr. Thakran had traveled from Sonipat to Indore about five days before his arrest to visit his brother who was undergoing treatment there.
Acting on information about his presence in Indore, a team of the Mumbai Crime Branch traveled to the city and with the help of the local police tracked him down and arrested him.
