PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Monday demanded that the state government extend 2.5% reservation to students of government-aided schools in admissions to medical colleges, just as students of government schools were given 7.5% reservation.

Dr. In a statement, Anbumani said that poor and disadvantaged students studying in government-aided schools were being denied social justice in admissions to medical courses.

“Since the social and economic situation of students in government and government-aided schools is basically similar, it is time to extend social justice to government-aided school students without affecting the interests of government school students,” he said.

Dr. Anbumani added that the state government must take appropriate steps to provide separate 2.5% reservation to students studying in government-aided schools.

“The demand to extend the same measure of social justice to students of state-aided schools has been raised consistently in the last five years. More than five years have passed since the introduction of the 7.5% reservation. The government must also examine the extension of this exclusive benefit to students of state-aided schools,” he said.
