Farmers should adapt their cultivation practices to the changing agricultural conditions and explore alternative crops and allied farming activities that require less water, less investment and less labor while offering better income opportunities, said Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) Chairman and Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil.

Referring to the impact of El Nino, the CMD advised farmers to explore modern and water-efficient cultivation practices suitable for local conditions. He assured that the power company will continue its efforts to provide better electricity supply and services to the farming community.

Accompanied by Discom director V Shivaji (Projects and IT), the CMD on Sunday went on surprise field visits to Rayikal, Vityala and Rameshwaram villages in Shadnagar division of Rangareddy district.

CMD has suggested growing leafy greens, drumsticks, various vegetables and flowers in small plots of one or two guntas and also one or two acres of land. He worked with the research and development (R&D) team of Kheyti, which operates in the Shadnagar region and promotes climate-smart agriculture for smallholder farmers, to understand innovative farming practices suitable for smallholder farming.

During the field visit, he inspected the operation of distribution transformers supplying agricultural services. He discussed the reasons for recurring transformer failures, wiring problems and technical measures needed to improve power quality and reliability.
