Meet Abijit Ganguly: Stand-up comedian leaves Mumbai after 9 years; more celebrities settled from Maximum City; here’s why | Today’s news

Stand-up comedian Abijit Ganguly left Mumbai and moved to Bengaluru after nine years. He explained his decision on Instagram, citing constant construction and concerns about family life. With a baby, he wanted more greenery, open space and spacious schools in the future.

Ganguly said he moved out of Mumbai last week. He described life in the city as living in “hard mode”. His post reflected a growing frustration with the projects, renovations and disruptions around them.

“…there will always be the next project, the next renovation to make your life difficult. And if nothing else, they will tear down the existing one completed a few years ago to do something bigger,” Ganguly wrote.

“Living in Mumbai has always felt like life in hard mode. And with the baby in the picture, I wanted to have some greenery and space around me. And eventually schools with space,” he added.

The comedian moved to Maximum City from Delhi nine years ago. He said he loved the city at first. But his feelings changed over time. According to him, the change was especially noticeable after the lockdown.

“By the way, I think Mumbai was a good place to live until ‘Dilli se aaya hai kya?’ used to be an insult. Now let’s see,” he concluded.

Ganguly’s exit comes alongside other public figures choosing homes outside Mumbai. Their reasons include a difficult commute, personal well-being, a quieter environment and business needs. However, moving away does not always mean leaving the city permanently.

Comedian Tanmay Bhat’s journey offers another example. After the collapse of AIB in late 2018, businessman Kunal Shah advised him to consider Bengaluru.

Bhat spent a considerable period there, relaunching his career and exploring the world of startups. He also focused on his health and developing his digital and investment interests.

After a few years, Bhat returned to Mumbai. He now lives there and runs his creative agency Moonshot. His experience is different from Ganguly’s current decision to relocate his family to Bengaluru.

Goa has also attracted several entertainment personalities who are looking for a different lifestyle. Television actress Narayani Shastri moved there with her husband, citing grueling travel in Mumbai as the reason. She said it can sometimes take two to three hours to reach the sets.

Nafisa Ali and Pooja Bedi also opted for the slower pace of Goa for personal well-being. Choreographer-director Remo D’Souza shifted his primary base there to escape the constant rush of Mumbai.

Singer Lucky Ali chose life on a farm in the foothills of the Himalayas and in the quiet suburbs of Bengaluru. Juhi Chawla and Jai Mehta developed an organic farming retreat in Mandwa. They maintained a working relationship with Mumbai and sought time away from its heavy pollution.

For Ganguly, his explanation centers around his child’s daily life and surroundings. His Instagram post combines disappointment at Mumbai’s changing character with hopes for more space.

“All cities in this country are in a state of constant construction. Greetings from Hyderabad,” wrote one.

“Money made from Mumbai lets you do it,” commented another user.

Another user wrote: “Speaking of Bangalore, everything is under development, under construction and people live under so much stress. Mumbai is not alone.”

“Mumbai people are the only salvation this city has to be very honest. If it wasn’t for work and money I really don’t think anyone would be fighting the battles that Mumbai throws at you every day,” chimed in another.

“More power to you man. Few of us have the guts to admit it and look for better things,” another user wrote.
