Trained 108 ambulance EMTs to provide first aid for eye injuries
LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), EMRI Green Health Services (EMRI GHS) and Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital have launched an initiative in which emergency medical technicians (EMTs) from 108 ambulances have been trained to provide first aid in cases of eye trauma before sending them to a specialized eye hospital.
Ambulances were also provided with eye injury kits. The collaborative initiative aims to strengthen the ability of emergency response systems to recognize eye trauma, initiate appropriate first response and facilitate timely referral to specialist eye care services. It will be launched in Hyderabad initially.
The initiative was jointly launched by K Krishnam Raju, Director, EMRI Green Health Services, and Gullapalli N Rao, Founder Chairperson, LV Prasad Eye Institute. The initiative gains significance with Diwali around the corner, when cases of eye injuries are at an all-time high.
