TTV Dhinakaran, general secretary of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), said that the AIADMK and the DMK never tried to form the government together and instead efforts were made to make Thol the president of the VCK. Thirumavalavan, Chief Minister.

Speaking to reporters in Sivagangai, Mr. Dhinakaran said they initiated the move because the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) did not have the support of enough MLAs.

“Speaking as someone who was part of this alliance, no effort was ever made for AIADMK and DMK to come together to form a government. TVK had only 107 MLAs. (DMK president) MK Stalin made it clear that DMK would not try to come to power. That’s why we tried to form an AIADMK-led government. At that time I said, Chief, please form a government, I approached V. expand support so that we, the common people, can create it, however the Left parties rejected their support saying that (AIADMK General Secretary) Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s support would be tantamount to BJP’s support After this, we all, including EPS (Mr. Palaniswami), tried to make Thirumavalavan the Chief Minister,” he said.

Mr. Dhinakaran further clarified that this initiative was not to prevent TVK from forming the government but rather to prevent their MLAs from being poached. He claimed that DMK and AIADMK can never reconcile under any circumstances.

To another query, he said those who mourn Mr. Palaniswami’s failure to bring the AIADMK back to power should convey their views directly to him in person rather than airing them publicly, adding that the AMMK and the AIADMK would continue to work together.
