The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in three districts of Kerala on Sunday (October 25) and in two districts on Monday (October 26).
Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts are on red alert on Sunday, while Idukki and Palakkad are on red alert on Monday, according to the latest IMD update.
Regarding the warnings, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has warned that intense rain within a short period of time may trigger flash floods, overflowing streams, waterlogging in urban and low-lying areas and landslides.
The KSDMA has advised people in hilly areas prone to landslides and low-lying areas prone to floods to move to safer places if necessary. He also urged people not to cross rivers or enter bodies of water during heavy rain, avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from waterfalls and hilly areas until the warnings are lifted.
Night travel to hilly areas should be completely avoided, KSDMA said in a Facebook post, urging the public and government agencies to remain vigilant.
