The State Electric Council of Keral (KSEB), which was quoted by the lack of staff in the field, decided to temporarily hire electric staff to deal with emergencies during the current southwest monsoon season.
The KSEB management gave a nod to involve qualified candidates through employment exchange for a maximum of 179 days to ensure the “continuous operation of field offices under the distribution wing”, according to the KSEB order of 31 May.
The decision comes at a time when KSEB had to be repaired on the war legs after heavy rainfall and winding in the early days of monsoon damaged above -ground cables and several thousand electric poles throughout the state.
Crores damage
According to the Department of the Energy Department, the energy sector suffered damage to the melody of 164.46 crore until Saturday to Saturday. 2,826 high voltages and 61,637 reassessments and 26,492 poles were damaged, which required continuous attention to the CSEB employees.
Meanwhile, hiring is considered a “special case” according to the KSEB command. The CSEB management stressed that it should be limited to the bare minimal “necessary to manage the current crisis resulting from natural calamities related to the monsoon”. This is because the KSEB decision comes at a time when the strength of employees is restructured to correspond to the strength of the approved State Regulatory Commission for Electricity Keral and the State Government.
