On Tuesday (June 3, 2025), the UP approved a proposal to provide 20% of the reservation to the former Agniveers for recruitment for various positions in the Uttar Pradesh Police. Horizontal reservations shall be used in direct recruitment as a police constant, provincial armed constabulary (PAC), constable and firefighter.
“The main objective of this decision is to ensure meaningful job opportunities after Agniver service who are completing their four-year term of office within the Agneepath scheme. This reservation will be applicable in all categories-general, SC (scheduled caste), ST (scheduled trunk) and municipalities (other reverse class). UP also said the former agniveers that apply to these contributions would be eligible for three years of age at age. The first dose of recruitment in this policy is expected to start in 2026, which coincides with the return of the first dose of Agniveers.
“This decision not only honors the Agniveers service, but also provides their continuing contribution to national security in the new capacity,” the state government said in a statement.
Agneepath scheme, established by the Union’s government, allows youth to serve in the Indian Army, Air Force and the Navy as Agniveers for four years.
In July 2024, the main Minister UTTAR Pradesh Yogi Adityanath said that the state government would provide reservations to Agniver in government services. “When Agniveers returns after their service, the Uttar Pradesh government will provide these youth with a device in the police service and a priority,” said Mr. Adityanath.
