Bruno Fernandes’ home was burgled hours after Manchester United’s defeat in Como
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes had his home in Cheshire burgled on Wednesday night while he was in Italy for the Champions League game against Como. Police launched an investigation after a number of items were stolen from the property, with three unknown men reportedly seen in the area shortly before officers arrived.
The incident took place around 20:30 local time, shortly after United’s 4-1 defeat by Comowhich added to an already difficult evening for the Portuguese midfielder. Fortunately, Fernandes and his family were reportedly not home at the time of the break-in.
Cheshire Police confirmed officers were called to the residential address following reports of suspicious activity by three unknown men. The suspects left before police arrived, but officers discovered evidence of a burglary and confirmed that a number of items had been stolen.
Detective Inspector Dave Jarvis said the investigation was in its early stages and inquiries were continuing to identify those responsible. Manchester United are also supporting Fernandes and his family following the incident, while the club have asked that their privacy be respected.
POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A BURGLARY IN CHESHIRE
According to reports, police were alerted at approximately 8.30pm BST after a caller reported seeing three unidentified men in the back garden of a neighboring property. Officers arrived at the scene but found no sign of the suspects.
Their subsequent checks revealed that Fernandes’ home had been broken into and several items had been taken. The investigation is still ongoing and no arrests have been confirmed in reports available so far.
United have confirmed that Fernandes’ family were not at the ground when the incident occurred. According to reports citing the club, the intruders spent less than five minutes inside the house before police arrived. Burglary follows BRUNO vs CARRICK ROW
The break-in came on a difficult night for Fernandes, whose Manchester United side suffered a 4-1 Champions League defeat at Como. Nico Paz scored twice, Anastasios Douvikas and Jacobo Ramon also found the net. Joshua Zirkzee scored a late consolation.
Fernandes, who started as captain before being substituted in the 67th minute, questioned United’s tactical approach after the game. Speaking to TNT Sports, he criticized the decision not to press Como man-to-man, arguing that holding the opposition too much allowed them to grow in confidence.
Asked if Carrick and his team had made a mistake in their tactics, Fernandes said the responsibility rested with the coaching staff. He called for more courage in pressing high and making opponents uncomfortable.
Carrick responded by stressing that tactics can only go so far if the players don’t work hard. The United manager said the players have to run forwards and backwards, regardless of the system used.
The exchange added to the scrutiny surrounding United after their second consecutive Champions League defeat sparked controversy over the player’s post-match comments. After the loss to Atletico Madrid, Lisandro Martinez also expressed his frustration with the club’s recruitment and singled out technical director Jason Wilcox, who later apologized for the way he expressed his views.
United now face pressure to turn their form around, with Carrick’s tactics and the team’s performances in the spotlight ahead of Sunday’s Premier League game against Bournemouth. Meanwhile, police continue to investigate the burglary at Fernandes’ home.
