₹ 60 million annual fund to maintain cleanliness in TN police stations

The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned an annual recurrent expenditure of ₹60 crore to ensure proper cleanliness of police stations.

The government approved the proposal of Director General of Police/Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal and issued an order granting fund and permission to hire external sanitation workers/sweepers for police stations and police units.

The DGP has been asked to follow the necessary tenders as per the existing rules and instruct the officers of the city/district heads and other units to provide occupancy certificates to the police headquarters.

Dr. In his proposal, Aggarwal said that since police stations are public places frequented by the general public for redressal of their grievances, it is necessary to ensure proper cleanliness and maintenance of police stations and special forces buildings.

At present, 2,003 police stations, including 1,382 law and order police stations and 245 all-women police stations, 11 branch offices, 4 zonal offices, 8 commissionerates, 277 sub-divisions, 16 battalions and 20 special units were functioning without dedicated permanent sanitation workers/sweepers, the DGP said.
