In Bihar, a life verification process is underway to ensure regular payment of pensions to beneficiaries under social security pension schemes and to maintain transparency in the distribution system.
According to data from the Department of Social Welfare, life verification is completed for 88.37% of pensioners. Out of the total number of 1,16,71,188 beneficiaries, the verification has been completed for 1,03,13,620. However, the life verification of 13,57,568 beneficiaries is still pending.
The department called on the remaining beneficiaries to complete their verification as soon as possible so that the records of all eligible pensioners can be verified within the specified period.
Pensioners must submit an annual proof of life by November 30 each year to avoid suspension of pension payments.
Madhubani district ranks first in Bihar in terms of number of beneficiaries whose life verification has been completed. Verification has been completed for 5,09,290 pensioners in the district.
Other districts that have completed beneficiary verification are: Patna with 4,91,125 beneficiaries, East Champaran 4,85,930, Muzaffarpur 4,62,294, Samastipur 4,35,744.
Patna ranks first in terms of total number of beneficiaries enrolled in social security pension schemes. The district has 6,17,153 pensioners followed by Madhubani with 5,88,855 beneficiaries, East Champaran: 5,66,316, Muzaffarpur: 5,20,559, Gaya: 5,07,191.
The ministry has urged all the remaining beneficiaries to complete the life verification as per the prescribed procedure as soon as possible.
“The state government is committed to providing financial support to senior citizens, widowed women and persons with disabilities through social security pension schemes. Completing the life verification process is necessary to verify beneficiary records and maintain transparency in the pension distribution system,” Social Welfare Minister Dr. Shweta Gupta.
It further stated: “Beneficiaries whose life verification is still ongoing should complete their verification as soon as possible in accordance with the prescribed procedure. The ministry is making every effort to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left out of the process due to lack of necessary information.”
