The Karnataka government has issued a preliminary notification for additional land acquisition required for Package 1 Phase 3 of the Namma Metro, also known as the Orange Line, between JP Nagar Phase 4 and the Mysuru Road side of the corridor. This is the third land acquisition notice issued for the parcel.
A notification dated October 16, 2026 and published in the Karnataka State Gazette identifies properties with a total area of 13,409.05 sq.m. over 11 entries. It gives details of land proposed for acquisition, including identification numbers, registration numbers, extent of land and information on existing structures.
The properties are located in Kaggalipura, Jaraganahalli and other localities along the proposed metro route.
“This is the third land acquisition notification issued for Namma Metro Phase 3 Corridor 1 Package 1. The notification is part of the land acquisition process for the 44.65 km Phase 3 project that will expand the Bengaluru Metro network by 31 stations across two corridors,” said an official of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).
Meanwhile, more than two years after the project was approved, BMRCL recently invited expressions of interest from Indian and international consulting firms to serve as the general consultant for Phase 3. The consultant will provide technical and project management support for the development of both corridors.
Corridor 1 will run 32.15 km from JP Nagar Phase 4 to Kempapura and will have 22 stations, while Corridor 2 will cover 12.50 km between Hosahalli and Kadabagere with nine stations.
JICA assistance is sought
BMRCL has applied for a ¥102.48 billion ODA loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to co-finance the two corridors.
“The proposed JICA loan will cover only a part of the total project cost, while BMRCL will provide the balance funding. Consultancy and procurement of components financed through the loan will be done as per JICA guidelines,” the official said.
The General Consultant will review engineering designs, prepare and finalize tender documents, evaluate bids and assist in contract negotiations. Once construction begins, the consultant will also monitor quality standards, workplace safety and environmental compliance, coordinate contractor work, and support testing and commissioning prior to commissioning the lines.
Phase 3 is expected to improve connectivity across Bengaluru and ease traffic congestion on busy stretches, especially along the Western Outer Ring Road, Magadi Road and other major arteries.
The project also envisages integration with existing and under-construction metro stations, BMTC bus terminals, Indian Railways stations and proposed suburban railway stations being developed by K-RIDE.
Multimodal integration facilities are planned at JP Nagar 4th Phase, JP Nagar, Kamakya, Mysuru Road, Sumanahalli, Peenya, BEL Circle, Hebbal, Kempapura and Hosahalli. According to officials, these facilities are intended to enable seamless transfers between different modes of public transport and improve access to the expanded metro network.
